Jennifer Garant named top artist by DÉCOR
Magazine
March 2006—Jennifer Garant has been named one of the top five women
at work in the art and framing industry by DÉCOR Magazine.
The March 2006 issue focused on five women making a difference in the
industry. Garant was selected for her efforts to help New Orleans recover
from Hurricane Katrina.
A native of Canada, Garant has spent much time in New Orleans and takes
inspiration from it to create her artwork. She and husband Tadd Loucks
planned to move to New Orleans before settling in Bloomington, Indiana.
After New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Garant urged other
artists to donate proceeds from sales to relief efforts. She is donating
12 months’ worth of her print royalties from Wild
Apple Graphics to hurricane relief through the American Red Cross.
Garant also hopes to establish a fund to help visual artists return to
New Orleans.
“For me, it was just a no-brainer,” said Garant. “New
Orleans is my favorite city in the world because it’s filled with
artists, musicians, people with millions of stories floating around. It’s
conducive for thinking and creative people.”
